Upcoming Local Races

GNCC Round 9 is this weekend, June 20-22 on Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia. It is one of the most popular races of the year- for very good reason. It's a tough, rocky course, but there is also a ton of things to do at the resort! This is a great round for the whole family. Gates opened this morning.
Snowshoe Mountain Resort was previously used for logging and railroad before it became a ski resort in 1974. Now, the resort is the largest in West Virginia and full of fun things to do like swimming, horseback riding, an arcade, axe throwing and so much more. There are shuttles available to help you travel around, as well as ski lifts. The Ballhooter ski lift will be running to transport spectators up and down the mountain. There is also lodging, dining, and shopping.
The racing will kick off Friday evening with the eMTB bikes and Stacyc, then ATVs on Saturday and dirt bikes on Sunday. Different than other rounds, this is not a micro 50cc round. Therefore, the Youth race will be held at 8am on Saturday, the AM race at 10 am and the PM race at 1pm. There will be live music in the Village Friday and Saturday night, as well as a chapel service Saturday evening. Keep a lookout for extra events too, such as the Yamaha demo rides at the bottom of Ballhooter near the boathouse.
Something really unique about the Snowshoe race is that the starting line is on the road. This is paying tribute to the Blackwater 500 (which was held in the same area of West Virginia) by starting "in town" with racers in groups of 5. They live-start every 10 seconds, unlike the usual dead-start in a field that GNCC is known for. This is one of the toughest rounds all year- racers can expect the course to be a real challenge.
AWRCS Round 5 will be next weekend, June 28th and 29th in Reynoldsville, PA. They call this round Reynlow Riders. Riders are reminded that AWRCS is now part of AMA, therefore a membership is required. ATVs, pit bikes and Stacyc racing is Saturday and dirt bikes are Sunday.
