It's Wednesday again! Welcome back for our 5th small business series blog post. This week, we will be featuring Josh Lojak's House of Speed.

Josh Lojak's family owns Lojak's Cycle Sales in Tarentum, PA. His brother is even in the AMA hall of fame. Josh has been riding since he was 4 years old and pro since 16. He has been training riders since 1996 and loves being a role model for kids who race dirt bikes.

His program helps all riders improve their skills, whether you are a beginner or an experienced dirt bike rider. He is a third generation coach and trainer and USMCA certified (United States Motorcycle Coaching Association).

As the site states, "At the House of Speed, our mission is to provide our riders with the highest quality training at competitive prices. We strive to exceed our customers' expectations with our exceptional techniques and expert knowledge gained from real world racing."

In Josh's class, you'll focus on:

  • cornering
  • braking
  • body position
  • control
  • symmetry
  • foot work
  • starts
  • jumps
  • self confidence
  • and more!

Dirt bikes can be a lot of fun to ride, but they can also be dangerous. Learning proper techniques when riding dirt bikes is important for safety. If you know how to handle your machine correctly and safely, you are less likely to get hurt. This is especially helpful for kids or anyone who is a beginner at riding dirt bikes.

It is important to be aware of the safety gear needed when learning to ride, so make sure you consider the following when starting out and before signing up for training courses:

  • Wear tight fitting clothing- riding gear is preferable. It should fit snug enough that it won't get tangled on parts of your bike, but still comfortable enough for you to move around.
  • Wear closed toe boots- riding boots would be preferable, but any solid, closed toe boots could work temporarily.
  • Inspect your bike- before taking a course or any time you ride, you should check over your bike to make sure it is in operable condition. Major points to check would be tire pressure, brakes and chains. Make sure you have gas also.
  • Have the proper safety gear- in addition to what is mentioned above, you should have the following when riding a dirt bike: helmet, goggles, gloves, chest protector, neck brace, and optional knee pads.

If you want to learn more about riding techniques, Josh might be the right fit for you. He is located near where we are in Pittsburgh, PA. Contact him at lojakjosh@gmail.com.
