Yamaha YFZ 450R Review

Posted by Marissa Fajbik on Oct 19th 2023

The Yamaha YFZ 450R is a popular ATV in the racing world. You'll find 2 of our pro racers- Cole Richardson and Ronnie Rusch, as well as our Tier 1 sponsored racer Johnny Braden aboard YFZ 450R's.

History of the YFZ 450

The YFZ 450R is a sport quad designed to be race-ready off the showroom floor. It first emerged in 2003 and has had a few redesigns and upgrades since. Many pros choose to run Yamaha, as the YFZ has a history of winning championships. By 2004, 3 out of 4 championships were won on this ATV. In 2023, the YFZ 450R is still being made. It is one of the only race worthy adult quads still in production. The Yamaha YFZ 450R is one of our most popular ATV graphics kits because many racers choose to ride them.

Looks for 2023

The 2023 YFZ 450R is available at dealerships all over. Find a dealer closest to you on the website. The 2024 is also becoming available. They have the same style plastics as previous years. Check with your local dealership for other color options that may be offered. Make sure to match your graphics to the plastic colors of your choosing!

Specs

This ATV features a 449cc liquid cooled 4-stroke engine sitting on a lightweight caliber cast aluminum/steel chassis.  The YFZ 450R also houses an assist-and-slipper clutch to reduce lever effort for less fatigue, which can come in handy when racing.

The seat is specially designed to be narrow in the front and wider with padding in the back for comfort. You'll also find 2.6" wide foot pegs that are ideal for standing. Also appreciate the front KYB shocks for bump absorption and the easy throttle for less fatigue. Overall, this ATV is designed with the rider's comfort in mind.

Possible Upgrades

Even though the YFZ 450R is race ready off the showroom floor, you may still want to add aftermarket parts. One popular modification is switching the handlebars to Flexx bars. They work as suspension for your hands, making riding or racing more comfortable. They are also adjustable, so the rider can choose how soft or stiff the bars are.

Another change a lot of riders make are the wheels and tires. Even though the YFZ 450R comes with Maxxis tires, depending what type of racing, you still may want a different type of tire. Motocross, flat track and hare scramble riders could all choose different tires specified for the type of track they will be on. You may also prefer different wheels. Many ATV riders will switch to HiPer wheels. They are made with carbon fiber composites and aluminum alloys to be stronger than traditional wheels. As an added bonus, HiPer offers a 1 year material defect warranty.
