GNCC Round 9- Snowshoe
Posted by marissa Fajbik on Jun 19th 2024
Round 9 for GNCC racing is this weekend, June 22nd and 23rd on Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia. This is one of GNCC's most popular races- and for a good reason. Keep reading to learn more about the events this weekend!
Information
Round 9 will be held on Snowshoe Mountain at the resort. This round is popular because of all the things to do at the nice resort! There are also many hotels and rental houses as well as camping and RV hookups. It is unlikely there are any reservations left this close to the event, so if you plan on going, be prepared to stay further away. The hotels and other accommodations book quickly when GNCC releases the yearly schedule.
The resort features a bike park for riding mountain bikes. There are options for all levels of skill, making this a fun option for everyone. They also have golfing, dining tours, sporting clays, scenic rides on the ski lifts, swimming pools, disk golf, and lake activities like canoeing and swimming. Read more about all the activities on the mountain here! There is so much to do for all ages!
Gates for Round 9 opened this morning at 10 am. The resort is large, so be prepared to do lots of walking or using the shuttles when getting around. Pit vehicles are permitted this round, but please read the following message from GNCC's site:
"Pit vehicles are permitted at Snowshoe but should only be used to transport riders, family and crew member to and from the starting line. Keep in mind the road system at snowshoe is under the jurisdiction of the West Virginia State Police and all laws are applicable. However, if you are using a non-licensed motorized vehicle and abiding by all of the laws of the roadway then you will not be stopped by the authorities.Under no circumstances are motorized vehicles permitted in or near the trail system. DO NOT take your motorized vehicle into the woods."
The Track
Racers consider Snowshoe one of the toughest tracks. Snowshoe Mountain is the second highest point in West Virginia. It became the resort after the area was logged and cleared out in the 1960s.
Be prepared for deep mud bogs, massive tree roots, and huge hills. The dirt is black, sticky and adds to the tough course.
Events
Be aware that this round is NOT a micro 50cc round. Youth will start at 8am on Saturday, followed by the AM race at 10am and the pro race at 1pm.
The Raven Wood Golf Club tournament will be held on Friday from 9am-5pm.
eMTB will be held Friday at 4pm and ePeeWee will be 6pm Friday in the village.
Live entertainment in the village will be announced.
GNCC kindly asks pet owners to keep them out of the village while events are taking place.
What's Next?
After this round, GNCC takes a break. The next round will be August 30-September 1 at CJ Raceway in Newburg, WV. Check back for more information on that round.
Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!
