2023 Senge Race Team- Meet the Girls
Posted by Marissa Fajbik on Nov 29th 2023
A lot of people stereotype dirt bike racing as being a boys' sport, which is entirely untrue. While it might be more popular among guys, there are still many girls that race! Keep reading to meet the girls on our race team.
Girls Race Too!
Many series have classes specifically for girls. Our local series GNCC and AWRCS both offer girls and womens' classes for youth and adult racing. The classes are offered for both dirt bikes and ATVs. While girls can race any class they wish to, it's a great option to have for those wanting to only compete against other women. AWRCS also allows any age to race Youth women's class as long as their bike fits within the motor size limit.
As dirt bikes become more popular among women, others are likely to get involved too. Women riders are setting examples that anyone can participate and join in on the fun. Motocross racing is a great sport to take up in general because it is challenging both mentally and physically while providing the adrenaline rush many people crave.
When to Start Racing
Just as with anyone, it can be beneficial to start off riding dirt bikes at a young age. Younger kids are likely to pick up on the sport easier. Smaller bikes are easier to find and cheaper. Stacyc bikes are a great "first bike" to learn balance before moving up to a real dirt bike!
When your child is ready to start riding, make sure to pick an appropriate bike size. Most kids start off on a Stacyc bike or a 50cc bike such as a Yamaha PW 50 or a Honda CRF 50. Do research in order to choose an option that would be best for your child based on their height, weight and skill level.
It is also important to make sure your child is equipped with all the essential riding gear. They will need a riding jersey and pants, helmet, goggles, riding boots, gloves, chest protector and neck brace. Safety should be the number one priority when learning how to ride.
Starting girls with riding dirt bikes early can boost their confidence and give them extra years of experience to assist in becoming a successful racer!
